Kashmir: Negotiating for Peace

The purpose of this negotiation simulation is to surface key issues and potential solutions to the points of impasse which will likely arise during future negotiations on Kashmir.

Briefing Papers

To provide the necessary information to conduct this simulation, this briefing packet contains a brief chronology of the history of the conflict, the principal interests of the parties and other relevant actors, a discussion of the primary issues which are likely to be discussed during the next round of negotiations, and negotiating instructions for the delegations. Four annexes containing supplementary information are located at the end of the instructions. Particularly, the BBC recently provided an overview of seven possible scenarios for a solution to the problem of final status of the Kashmir territory. These scenarios may provide a starting point for final status discussions between the parties. These seven scenarios and corresponding maps are provided at Annex D.
